So, is Kevlar carbon fiber bulletproof? No. Kevlar is not carbon fiber, and carbon fiber alone will not stop a bullet. In fact, carbon fiber tends to crack and shatter on impact, which is exactly what you don't want in a ballistic panel. Kevlar can stop bullets, but only when it's engineered into a proper multi-layer system with a backing plate and tested to a ballistic standard.

  • If the whole point is the natural texture and breathability, don't let a coating get in the way. Buy the linen or viscose fabric without the finish, and be ready to handle spills quickly.

It's tempting to think that a big brand name is always the safer bet. But I've seen cases where a smaller, specialized manufacturer did better work than a major brand's authorized reseller.
